Monday Mommy Inspiration ~ Don't Quit

              Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road your trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and its turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When they might have won, had they stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victors cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when your hardest hit,

Monday Mommy Inspiration ~ The "specialist mom"

You're the SPECIALIST mom in the world! What wonderful words to hear! My daughter who has inherited a "craft" gene that somehow bypassed me, wrote those words on an elaborate card she proudly made all by herself. As I was reorganizing my many piles the other day, I rediscovered those beautiful words and her creative handiwork. Reading them made me stop and think not just of her, but how blessed I really am to be a mom. I see the smiles on my kids' faces as we spontaneously pile into the car for ice cream. Their joy as they come to the table to see their "favorite food" for dinner, their excitement to see me after I have gone on an event, or even just a long day. Small things, but these are powerful reminders that my presence in their lives is making a difference for always.
I sometimes have days that make me feel as if I'm standing next to a merry-go-round, trying to grab hold of a horse to get on. However, the merry-go-round keeps spinning faster and faster, and no matter what I do, it keeps getting away. When the laundry is piled high, there are too many carpools to drive, and I'm at yet another meeting where I need to be more than physically present - it on those days that I need the reminder, "You're the 'specialist' mom in the world!" That is what stops the merry-go-round just long enough for me to get on and appreciate the rich colors and variety that my life as a mom has to offer. Take a minute today to "enjoy the ride" with your child.

Monday Mommy Inspiration ~ Slow Dance

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,
or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
Time is short, the music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
when they ask "How are you?", do you hear the reply?
When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores running through your head?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow,
and in your haste, not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a friendship die,
'Coz you never had time to call and say 'Hi'?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
Time is short, the music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
it's like an unopened gift thrown away.
Life is not a race, do take it slower,
hear its music before the song is over.

This poem is my personal favorite,  a challenge to go through life
not fearing rejection, but enjoying it to the full.

"forevering"

Hey Mom - what are you doing? I mean right now. This second. Nothing? Not true! You're mothering. Okay, you may be reading a blog. But you're still mothering. In the next room, your baby sleeps. Outside in the yard, your son plays. Over at the daycare center your daughter blows bubbles with a wand. And you sit at your computer, working, reading, writing, connecting... and still mothering.
Remember that mothering is as much who you are as what you do. It's part of your being, your personality, and your thinking, as much as it's a part of your actions. Mothering isn't something we slip off our feet when we go to bed at night or leave behind when we drive away.
Mothering is "forevering" It's making a difference day in and day out in the lives of those who depend on us for their nourishment and their hope. Sure, it changes with ages and stages of your little ones. But mothering is "forevering"
What are you doing now? You're mothering.

How come I deserve this?

How Come I deserve this?

Sometimes I think I am the worst mother in the world. I am forgetful, often stressed out, and sometimes even lose it with my children.
For instance, my five-year-old is the baby of the family, so of course she thinks she rules the roost and likes me to cater to her every whim. Yesterday morning when I attempted to wake her up, she grunted at me, rolled over, and went back to sleep. By the time I finally got her out of bed, I was running late for work and was quite angry. Then she wanted me to get her clothes for her and help her get dressed, although she has been able to do this herself for quite some time. I ended up yelling at her by the time we rushed out the door.
But do you know what she did last night? She came into my room and gave me the biggest hug and kiss and said. "I am so lucky to have a mom as great as you!" Now, I KNOW I did not deserve that.
Being a mom is such a humbling experience. No matter how many mistakes we make, our children still love us - every day. No matter how badly we mess up, our children always forgive us, always have time to give us a hug and kiss goodnight, and still think THEIR mom is the best. My children have taught me so much. They have taught me that is it never to late to say "I'm sorry." They have taught me that hugs heal. They have taught me that I am worthy of their love. But most of all they have taught me that mothering matters.
